fashion summer.

Summer 2012 has a super exciting calender of fashion events taking place this summer,
hype about the queens diamond jubilee is ripe,
and the excitement for the Olympic games is setting in,

Summer 2012 is set to be the summer of fashion!

"With its innovative designers, cutting edge street style and catwalk pizzazz, it's no wonder London has been voted fashion capital of the world. We want to show the city at its creative best in 2012 and these intriguing collaborations will bring together some of the most exciting designers and artists working in Britain today. I've no doubt we'll be seeing work that is as challenging as it is inventive, showing the power of creative collaboration and adding to a summer like no other."- Mayor of London Boris Johnson

There are two events happening in the amazing Victoria and Albert Museum this summer,
one current and one you will have to wait a little bit for....

First and foremost.....

'From spring 2012 the V&A celebrates the opening of the newly renovated Fashion Galleries with an exhibition of beautiful ballgowns, red carpet evening dresses and catwalk showstoppers.  Displayed over two floors,Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950 will feature more than sixty designs for social events such as private parties, royal balls, state occasions and opening nights.
The exhibition will cover over sixty years of a strong British design tradition that continues to flourish. Eveningwear from the V&A’s vast collection, by designers including Victor Stiebel, Zandra Rhodes, Jonathan Saunders and Hussein Chalayan, will be on show alongside dresses fresh from the catwalk shows of Alexander McQueen, Giles Deacon, Erdem and Jenny Packham.
A selection of royal ballgowns will be on display, including a Norman Hartnell gown designed for Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Princess Diana’s ‘Elvis Dress’ designed by Catherine Walker and gowns worn by today’s young royals. Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950 will also include dresses worn by actresses and celebrities including Elizabeth Hurley, Bianca Jagger and Sandra Bullock, and a stunning metallic leather dress created especially for the exhibition by innovative designer Gareth Pugh.'

I must say the sight if the McQueen dress is compelling enough to convince me to go!

alongside this exhibition, there are a number of events taking place including,
 a Fantasy & Fashion: Ballgown Illustration on Fri 08 June 2012 10:30
which is understandably sold out,,,, you have to be quick!

There is also a vintage style corsetry class taking place and a talk from Davis Sassoon, a pattern cutting and dress design class.

Now, for another exciting event happening at the V&A this summer!

I first read about this in the Harper's Bazaar July Edition,

There is a lovely spread of one of my favourite designers Giles Deacon alongside a beautifully printed long flowing gown, which he has collaborated on with artist Jeremy Deller.

'Britain Creates 2012 is an artistic project which forms part of theFashion 2012 [^] platform to celebrate the year of London’s hosting of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The BFC/Bazaar Fashion Arts Foundation has been working with the Mayor of London, LOCOG and a panel of influential individuals across fashion and the arts to deliver this unique cultural programme and Gala event, which is one of the highlight events, as a part of the London 2012 Festival, a spectacular 12-week nationwide celebration from 21st June and running until 9th September 2012, bringing together leading artists from across the world with the very best from the UK. The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are a celebration of excellence and performance and these partnerships have been commissioned to create pieces of work to reflect these special values.

'Britain Creates 2012: Fashion & Art Collusion', is part of this artistic project, providing a unique opportunity to celebrate and strengthen the longstanding relationships between fashion designers and visual artists. See list of designers and artists commissioned.

The Britain Creates 2012 project will be the start of an ongoing artistic project and bursary to support and encourage further collaboration between fashion and other art forms. The money for the bursary will be raised through the auction of the pieces and through the proceeds of a Gala event.'

I love Giles work! Here are some *fabulous* pieces from his Fall 12 RTW collection

This mixed with the work of Jeremy Deller was sure to be a success!
