Life | Live as long as you may. The first twenty years are the longest half of your life.

Hey all! It is my 21st birthday! If you didn't know, I have been mentioning it so often I don't understand how that has been allowed to happen? And I have had an incredible day! :)

I began the day by waking up nice and early, so that I would have time to relax a bit, eat breakfast, walk around remember to include my usual habit of general procrastination which meant I was, like most days 20 minutes 30 minutes late for uni :| (to the extent of waking up at 7:30 and not being ready to leave at 9:15), preen my freshly dyed hair, have a bath (and everything else that goes with it) and most importantly pick an outfit to wear with my new +Acne Studios shoes!

Acne Studios Taurus Shoes!
Wwwhhaaahhhh, my new gift to self birthday shoes. There is a post dedicated to these babies here.
If your getting sick of seeing them too bad.

And so, after a good productive day few hours at uni myself and Kate went for a good old snoop in brick lane :)
We had a look in some of the vintage shops and here are some of our finds!
I hope you like my mirror shots, they make my spine tingle slightly are awesome I know.

All these pictures were taken in Rokit :)
<3

We then took a trip to good old Vintage Emporium, which never lets us down and has featured on the blog here many times!

When I got home I was also greeted by a nice cake and some awesome presents.
Many of the ones on the list I have actually had since before my birthday... when it comes to shopping my Mum is as bad a me worse than me!
Buying present a month before my actual birthday, or you could I guess, put it as buying stuff and using my birthday as an excuse.

I am also going to take this opportunity to point out how incredibly important it is to gift yourself at your birthday.
Pretty sure you deserve it. Whatever it is. Hopefully. :)

Omg. Cake. Help.

Style | ACNE Studios - Taurus glittered jelly and leather pumps

These Acne shoes are just incredible.

Happy Tuesday 30th April and *also* Happy 21st Birthday to me :)

On Sunday I took a trip to The Other Art Fair as you would have seen in my last post, and afterwords we took a trip to Oxford Street.
Firstly, I saw these incredible shoes in red satin and trotted around wearing them in +Selfridges for a while and completely adored them.

They are ridiculously comfortable, clarified by +NET-A-PORTER 'A comfortable statement shoe is hard to find and +Acne Studios has you covered with these 'Taurus' pumps.'

But then in +Liberty London were the black leather ones. Simply in LOVE.
Also rather superstitiously called 'Taurus Satin'.

They were gaining quite a lot of attention on the stand in Liberty and I managed to get the last pair in my size!
They also seem to be sold out pretty much everywhere, but you can find some sizes here on Net-A-Porter.
There are also some other incredible variations on the Acne Website, www.acnestudios.com
and you can spot them all in action below on the video of Acne S/S13 runway show! Enjoy X

Project | Pattern Cutting for the novice, toile time!

Hi all! Its been a while, I know, but I have been super busy doing marketing assignments, textiles and having a cold  :(
On the plus side, we have updated to a new supersonic internet router, and upgraded our broadband speed.... so now my pictures upload even faster...! *YAY*

And so, this post is furthering on from my last post, Pattern Cutting for the Novice and I have began drafting some toiles.

They have been pretty successful and the pattern cutting book has made creating them so simple and easy to put together, the books step by step guides and amazing pictures are incredible!

Firstly I began drafting the simple basic bodice block of which you can then use in order to create a simple t-shirt, a dress, a blazer and basically any garment that covers the upper body.

I took me a while to grasp how to draw a good curve using the Pattern Master and spent quite a long while drafting the curves, measuring them and redrafting them.
But after a while of redoing comes, success!

So, as I drew patterns and made the toiles I eventually came to a conclusion on one of my final piece's that I am overall pretty happy with.
As I worked through the step by step I was unsure how the different sleeve widths and crown heights would work together and change the movement of the sleeves (while also trying to grasp the pattern-cutting jargon). So, each sleeve I created I used a different combination of height and width and increased and decreased the sleeve head ease to see how they related.

As you can see from the pictures below my first toile was the striped red one. The sleeves were quite restricted, yet it gathered and folded horribly (I added a large sleeve ease as I though that it would make the sleeve loser and easier to move in), and I also found the front top dart rather ugly and intrusive.
Especially as I wanted to get rid of the shoulder seam and replace it with two angled seams which you can see in the lower pictures (I broke quite a few machine needles and got a tiny bit angry trying to get the points neat), and I also changed the position of the back top dart in order to correspond with and emphasise the new shoulder seams. I also changed the sleeve so that it was less restrictive on the movement of the arm by having no ease, a wider sleeve width and shorter height (you can see the pattern above) and so it fit perfectly into the bodice and allowed a good amount of movement.
